The Sarah H. Baker Memorial Writer’s Cabin at Vilicus Farms
Vilicus Institute is working to establish a land based residency program in the Northern Great Plains for writers, chefs and researchers.
The Sarah H. Barker Memorial Writers Cabin is a “tiny house” constructed in partnership with Vilicus Farms. The space will serve as a resource for greater learning and exploration of our land base in North Central Montana. Upon its completion the SHB Writer’s Cabin will be open for residents as a way of creating greater understanding about climate impacts to agriculture and the role of the NGP in our food system.
Residencies at the SHB Writer's Cabin will be available soon for a variety of creative and scientific projects.

Sarah H Baker:
Sarah Hanberry Baker retired in 2017 from a 28 year career with the US Forest Service. Sarah finished her career as the national deputy of Sustainable Operations, an office she helped develop. Her vision and leadership helped to reduce the agency’s environmental footprint.
Sarah also had an extensive writing career publishing novels, novellas, and short stories as well as adapting several books for audio drama. She wrote mysteries as S. H. Baker, romance as Sarah Storme, and the hot stuff as Lydia Parks.
This writer's cabin was constructed in Sarah’s memory as a space for forward thinkers of all disciplines to be inspired by the expansive landscapes of the Northern Great Plains.
“I approach the final transition without regret. I’ve lived a life full of joy, excitement, beauty, and love. You, my family and friends, have made it the wondrous experience it has been. I hope to encourage you all to reach for what you want with both hands and without fear. Hugs to all of you, Sarah”
